Research: Rees algebras and mixed multiplicities were introduced by Rees in the fifties. In 1987, I found an interesting connection between them which led to several papers identifying Cohen-Macaulay Rees algebras by computing the Hilbert function of their maximal homogenous ideal.

Besides Rees algebras and Hilbert functions, I have also worked on Zariski\'s theory of complete ideals, face rings of simplicial complexes, local cohomology, bounds on a-invariants, fiber cones, joint reductions and form rings and polytopes.

Broadly speaking, I am a Symplectic Geometer. Nailing this down a bit better, I am currently working in the area of Symplectic Dynamics. For a better idea of exactly where I am working in this area, you could take a peek at some work of Barney Bramham, or his advisor, Helmut Hofer. Another area of math that interests me is Multisymplectic Geometry. This area is particularly interesting since it\'s definitions parallel that of Symplectic Geometry, but while some theorems have similar (or identical) forms, usually things in the Multisymplectic world are considerably less predictable. My PhD advisor is Richard Hind.
